The School of Land Management and Development (SLMD), located at the Laucala Campus in Suva, Fiji, offers courses in land use planning, valuation, development feasibility, resource management and real estate. As Property and Land issues in the Pacific Islands are quite distinctive and are pivotal to Pacific Island Country (PIC) economies, the successful candidate will have the unique opportunity to influence land and property management in the Pacific by teaching and building on existing research and the postgraduate programme of the School. The Opportunity
The USP is seeking an outstanding academic and scholar with strong industry connections who will strive to make a significant contribution to the strategic domain of South Pacific land and property management and development. The appointee will assume responsibilities of Head of School of Land Management and Development. As a senior member of staff, the appointee will have the opportunity to travel to member countries in the Region and act in consultancy and advisory roles to various Pacific Island governments and well as non-governmental and private organisations. She/He will also ensure that the School and University mission statement, strategic plan and University policies are implemented.

The Person We Seek
Applicants must have a PhD in property resource related discipline with extensive experience in research, publications and consultancy, preferably in the Pacific Island Countries.
In addition they must have, commensurate with the rank of Professor:
• Extensive teaching experience in at least two of the above mentioned areas
• Experience in curriculum development
• Experience in postgraduate supervision
• Experience in professional accreditation
• The ability to be entrepreneurial in attracting external grants
• Excellent English – written and oral communication skills
• Excellent people skills and strong ability to develop and lead the school
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in distance and flexible education and a track record in obtaining accreditations.

Remuneration
The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range: Professor FJ$115,248 to FJ$124,592 per annum
(Inclusive of 15% Gratuity)
In addition to the above benefits, the University contributes 10% of basic salary to an approved superannuation scheme, and provides airfare and relocation costs where appropriate. The possibility of a 50% inducement allowance is negotiable. Educational opportunities are also provided for the appointee’s family to study at the University of the South Pacific at a substantial discount.
