We are searching for the first Senior Executive Officer at R B Cowden Family Properties, Ltd. This individual will lead the daily operations of the family-owned business in the oil and gas industry. Working closely with the family patriarch who has led the business for 51 years the objective is to transition his responsibilities to this newly created SEO position with the goal of having that individual demonstrate the skills, leadership and experience to move into the President role and then being the next CEO of the company.
The goal of the limited partnership and other entities is to maintain business operations for the purpose of realizing sustainable income and to research areas of potential growth through long-term investment with a conservative approach to risk.
The starting point for the position will include the following responsibilities:
1. Develop a depth of understanding of the current organizational/entity structure as well as entity histories, current investment strategies and successes and potential for future growth.
2. Ensure mineral and lease management that is consistent with best practices including but not limited to the following:
a. Lease agreement analysis, chain of title and ownership, division order analysis, lease negotiation including executive rights, surface use agreements, right of way negotiation, surface damage negotiation and spill clean-up and remediation.
b. Verify and approve terms and amounts of payments received for damages, lease bonus payments and other payments for deposit.
3. Communicate negotiated lease offers to Directors and Officers for final approval.
4. Review and negotiate operating agreements.
5. Collect, organize and digitize existing documentation including base leases, assignments, farm-outs, operating agreements, title opinions and division orders.
6. Provide monthly activity reports to Directors and Officers.
7. Work closely with Senior Accountant to:
a. Ensure timely and accurate financial information, analysis and reports
b. Provide for annual meetings for various entities including notice, agendas and minutes from previous meetings for approval and election of officers
c. Review of regulatory and compliance documentation including tax documents
d. Review of investments, distributions and ratification of interim business decisions
e. Create an annual budget, have budget approved by Officers and Directors and then and review with Officers and Directors on a quarterly basis
8. Work with Directors and Officers and third parties such as financial advisors to develop a long term strategic plan for business management and investment.
Key Qualifications
• Leadership/management experience within the context of current or recent employment.
• Bachelor’s Degree with a PLM or CPL and/or MBA preferred.
• Demonstrated fiscal management, budgeting and investment management.
• An effective communicator, articulate and persuasive in written and verbal communications, adept at crafting proposals.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology and information systems in increasing organizational effectiveness.
• Extensive understanding of mineral interests, including the counties of such mineral interests and stay abreast of oil and gas activity in the area.
• Must have knowledge of state regulations such as Texas Railroad Commission rules.
• Ability to check county records or abstracts to create run sheets and to cure title.
• A strategist who is adept at planning, prioritizing, organizing and can look across the various entities for opportunities to apply strategies that will exploit minerals, conserve and protect ranchlands and act on investments in line with the owners’ long term goals.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and ability.
